Description:
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department at Southern Methodist University (SMU) invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in support of its Research Center of Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM). This is a non-tenured and non-tenure-track research professor position. The faculty member will be engaged in daily activities of RCAM and be active in expanding the industrial support basis of the center. RCAM lies at the interface between science, engineering, and industrial practice. The center provides North Texas companies experimental, computational, and industrial opportunities for material processing and testing while interfacing with the scholarship and research of the students and faculty in the SMU Lyle School of Engineering. The center started operations in 1999, responding to the needs of companies involved in manufacturing engineering. Since its inception, RCAM has secured over $20 million in governmental funding and industry contracts. More than 15 major industrial companies have collaborated with the center faculty, staff and students. Currently RCAM focuses on laser material processing and additive manufacturing of metals and alloys; flexible automotive manufacturing; and micro-machining of semi-conducting materials. The faculty member will be instrumental in expanding RCAM's capabilities and focus to advance its scientific mission, and at the same time, support the industrial needs of our nation.
